Anchor Rubber Bands for Cable Harnessing: the Industrial Solution for the Automotive Wiring Sector

Bandex | Anchor Rubber Bands for Cable Harnessing: the Industrial Solution for the Automotive Wiring Sector

Why Choose Anchor Rubber Bands for Cable Harnessing in the Automotive Industry?

In the manufacture of automotive wire harnesses, every second of assembly cycle time counts. Operators need temporary fastening systems that are quick to apply, secure, reusable and compliant with the sustainability requirements that today's automotive supply chain demands. Anchor rubber bands for cable harnessing meet exactly those requirements. They consist of natural rubber rings fitted with an anchor-shaped tab that allows wire harnesses to be held, grouped and organised firmly, without tools, without generating cutting waste and without any risk of damaging the conductors. At Bandex, we manufacture and supply more than 250 billion units per year of these bands to wire harness manufacturers worldwide.

A Growing Market That Demands Efficient Solutions

The global automotive wire harness market reached USD 76.1 billion in 2021 and is expected to exceed USD 99.7 billion by 2027, at an annual growth rate of 4.4%. The main driver of this growth is vehicle electrification: in 2021, electric car sales doubled to 6.6 million units globally. Each modern vehicle incorporates an average of 4.8 km of wiring, and that figure rises in electric and hybrid vehicles, which integrate more electrical components, more sensors and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). The greater the harness complexity, the greater the need for precise fastening systems that are reusable and will not deteriorate conductor insulation. Anchor rubber bands for cable harnessing have become the de facto standard in wire harness assembly plants across Morocco, Eastern Europe, Tunisia and Latin America, where direct and indirect Bandex customers include Aptiv, Leoni, Yazaki, Sumitomo and Lear.

What Is an Industrial Anchor Rubber Band and How Does It Work?

Bandex | Anchor Rubber Bands for Cable Harnessing: the Industrial Solution for the Automotive Wiring Sector

An anchor rubber band is an elastic ring manufactured in natural or synthetic rubber featuring an anchor-shaped head. This head acts as a mechanical stop: once inserted through the loop of the band itself, it locks in place and will not release under vibration or accidental tension. Application: the operator stretches the band with their fingers, wraps it around the wire harness and hooks the anchor. No tools required. No cable ties to cut. No waste generated. Removal: simply pull the tab or the anchor head. The band remains intact and ready to reuse. This ease of use reduces cycle time per operation and eliminates the risk of cut-induced damage that can render metres of high-value wiring unusable.

Elasticity and Adaptability

Bandex anchor rubber bands can stretch to five times their resting length, allowing them to accommodate wire harnesses of varying diameters without the need for multiple references. Available in a wide range of sizes and colours, they also facilitate the visual identification of circuits and sub-assemblies during the assembly process.

Secure Fastening Without Marking

The anchor geometry prevents accidental slippage. Natural rubber leaves no marks and does not compress conductor insulation — a critical factor for signal cables and low-voltage CAN/LIN networks.

Sustainability Aligned with Tier 1 and Tier 2 Requirements

Natural rubber is a renewable and recyclable raw material. Bandex anchor bands are plastic-free and support supply chain emission-reduction objectives required by programmes such as the European Green Deal and the UN 2030 Agenda. Many Tier 1 manufacturers already include sustainability criteria in the approval process for consumable suppliers: anchor rubber bands make that compliance straightforward at no additional cost.
